Ottawa mail-ballot applications close at 4:30 p.m. today
Ottawa's Elections Office says eligible voters have until 4:30 p.m. on September 15 to apply for a special mail-in ballot for the 2026 municipal election. Approved voter kits are expected to be mailed during the week of September 21.
Why it matters
Residents who want to vote by mail must apply before the deadline. This is not the deadline to return a completed ballot, and voters should use only the official City of Ottawa forms and contact details.
Canada eases short-course rules for some work-permit holders
A new temporary public policy lets foreign nationals with a valid Canadian work permit take a course or program lasting six months or less without a separate study permit. The exemption ends when the work permit or policy expires, whichever comes first.
Workers upgrading credentials or moving into shortage occupations such as health care may benefit. This is not a permanent-residence guarantee, and longer programs still require separate checks.
