Calgary: Alberta referendum advance voting ends tonight, Monday is voting day

Advance voting in Alberta's referendum ends tonight, with referendum day set for Monday, Oct 19, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. MT; 174,532 voted on day one of advance polls, and the separation question is Question 10, counted first.
Why it matters
Advance voting in Alberta's referendum ends tonight (Oct 17), with referendum day on Monday, Oct 19. Elections Alberta says 174,532 people voted on the first advance day (Oct 13) alone (via Global News) — well above the roughly 152,000-per-day average in the 2023 provincial election's advance polls, pointing to a possible record turnout.
How to vote
About 310 advance stations were open Oct 13–17. On Monday, polls run 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mountain Time and voters must go to their assigned polling station. Mail-in ballot applications have closed, with ballots due at Elections Alberta by 5 p.m. on Oct 16. Bring one government photo ID with your name and current address, or two pieces of ID with your name, one showing your address.
The ten questions
Voters get ten separate, numbered, colour-coded ballots. Questions 1–9 are yes-or-no, covering immigration policy, eligibility for provincial programs, proof-of-citizenship voting requirements and constitutional changes. Question 10 asks whether Alberta should remain in Canada or begin the legal process toward a binding separation referendum — it is non-binding and would not itself take Alberta out of Canada. Counting starts at 8 p.m. Monday, with Question 10 counted first.
Polls and outlook
A Léger poll released Oct 8 (1,001 Alberta adults surveyed Oct 2–4) found 70% favoured remaining in Canada and 22% favoured starting the separation process. Both camps agree turnout will decide the outcome and are urging supporters to vote.
