France's OVHcloud to launch first AI model in early 2027; says half its cloud capacity is available

CEO Octave Klaba told Reuters after annual earnings that the mixture-of-experts model is trained on Jupiter, Europe's fastest supercomputer; about 110 MW of 250 MW connected capacity is ready for new clients.

Why it matters

European cloud operator OVHcloud expects to launch its first AI model in early 2027, CEO Octave Klaba told Reuters on Tuesday after the company published its annual earnings, marking the French firm's entry into the race for sovereign European AI models.

The model will use a mixture-of-experts design, routing tasks to specialised sub-models. Klaba said OVH has started training its own models on Jupiter, Europe's fastest supercomputer, positioning the company as a potential European challenger to Mistral. Alongside it, OVHai Workspace — a productivity platform tuned on OVH's internal data running workplace apps such as email — will release its first pilot shortly.

On capacity: OVH has 250 megawatts of connected cloud, 140 MW in operation, leaving about 110 MW ready to take on new business — roughly half the connected capacity idle and available. That means it can onboard clients without spending on construction, while rivals must invest in new build-outs to serve regional demand, Klaba said.

He reiterated his criticism of Europe's state-backed computing programmes, saying financing split between the EU and member states naturally pushes projects toward national initiatives — "a race of national data centre projects, none backed by a customer base to match." Last month he had said national strategies for the EU's planned AI gigafactories were "doomed to failure" and that a proposed €200 million public commitment to buy AI services over five years was too small to underpin the required private investment.
