Kazakhstan's government has revealed it is working with Nvidia to seek opportunities to apply advanced AI in industry, energy, transport and robotics, the latest step in a decade-long digital transformation. No deal value or timetable was announced.

Kazakhstan's government has revealed it is working with AI hardware leader Nvidia to seek opportunities to apply advanced AI in industry, energy, transport and robotics. Computer Weekly reported the development on October 29, describing it as the latest step in bringing AI together with everyday infrastructure. No specific agreement, funding figure or timetable was announced in the October 29 reveal, which is framed as seeking opportunities rather than a committed deployment.

The next step in a decade-long transformation

Kazakhstan's digital transformation has been ten years in the making, aiming for AI, aerospace and infrastructure to underpin daily life for 20 million people. In April 2026 the country unveiled an ambitious digital transformation programme for Central Asia. According to Zhaslan Madiyev, deputy prime minister and head of the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, more than 90 percent of government public services were already available online at the start of April, 1,300 in total, with almost 40 official documents available in digital format. Kazakh law treats digital documents as equivalent to paper ones, covering travel, trains, public services and banking.

How this relates to the October 23 GPU buildout

This site reported on October 23 that US AI cloud company Firebird had obtained a US export licence for 45,000 Nvidia Grace Blackwell graphics processing units and is building a data centre with Kazakhtelecom at Data Center Valley in Ekibastuz, targeting commercial operations in the third quarter of 2027. Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang met President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in Astana on October 23 and called the country a potential global hub for physical AI. The October 29 news is the government-level application track of the same strategy: one track builds computing hardware, the other puts AI into physical sectors such as industry and transport. What to watch next is whether the two sides announce specific industry pilots, the parties involved and a timetable.
