London · Transit · Nov. 1, 2026 · Rail passengers at London Euston faced severe disruption on Saturday, Oct. 31 after a signalling fault between Euston and Watford Junction blocked several lines. Network Rail, the publicly owned body responsible for the tracks, said trains on the section could be cancelled, delayed by up to 90 minutes or revised; London Northwestern Railway said the fault was specifically in the Camden area.

Several operators affected, coaches bypass the fault

Avanti West Coast, which runs services to Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow, put on rail replacement coaches to take passengers from Euston to Watford and Milton Keynes to bypass the problem. Other operators affected included London Overground, Southern, London Northwestern Railway and Lumo. Transport for London also closed Euston Underground station because of overcrowding at the station, leaving passengers to seek other routes through central London.

Easing by Saturday evening, but check before travelling

Network Rail said on Saturday evening that it expected the disruption to continue until the end of the day; in an update at 8:30 p.m., it said some trains were able to pass through the affected stretch of track into Euston, offering the first sign that the blockage was easing. The disruption capped a difficult weekend for rail travel in and around London, with several other lines also affected by planned engineering work, and operators advised passengers to check services before travelling.
