Google Cloud outage hits London: Revolut, Lloyds, HSBC and court video services disrupted

A power event in Google Cloud's London region knocked out services at Revolut, major UK banks and public services; Google targets 13:00 UTC for full recovery.
Why it matters
On the morning of Tuesday, October 20, a power event in Google Cloud's europe-west2-b zone in the London region disrupted dozens of cloud services. Revolut customers reported problems with payments, withdrawals and app access (Revolut said customers' money and data were safe), while users of Lloyds and HSBC also reported issues, alongside UK court video services and courier DPD. The outage is a reminder of how much banking, government and logistics now depend on a single cloud provider.
Full report
Google said the power issue was mitigated and existing workloads were recovering, giving a tentative 13:00 UTC target for full workload recovery. The Register reported that one of three availability zones in Google's London region was affected, with listed outages spanning Cloud Run, Google Kubernetes Engine and BigQuery Data Transfer Service.
Bloomberg Technology reporters Shona Ghosh and Charlie Wells said Revolut's services were reported offline worldwide. The Irish Times reported normal service at AIB and Bank of Ireland. Google attributed the outage to a power event but did not specify what failed inside the power system.
