Santa Ana Winds Ease in Los Angeles; Red-Flag Parking Restrictions Lifted Sunday Morning

· N GLOBE

Santa Ana winds are expected to ease on Sunday, and Los Angeles will lift its red-flag parking restrictions at 6 a.m.; highs in Los Angeles County are forecast in the mid-80s to around 90, with tides of 7.2 to 7.6 feet and a beach hazards statement in effect through Tuesday morning.

Minor Santa Ana winds are expected to dissipate enough on Sunday that Los Angeles officials will lift red-flag parking restrictions at 6 a.m. The Los Angeles Fire Department's red-flag parking restriction program took effect at 6 a.m. on Saturday, barring parking on narrow streets in mountain and high fire-risk areas so fire engines can pass. The National Weather Service expected northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph in the warning areas, with gusts to 45 mph and isolated gusts of 45 to 55 mph. Heat continues, peaking Sunday

Temperatures are expected to remain well above normal through early next week, peaking on Sunday, with highs in Los Angeles County reaching the mid-80s to around 90 degrees Fahrenheit (about 29 to 32 Celsius); the strongest Santa Ana winds were expected in the mountains and along the Highway 14 and 126 corridors.

High tides; beach hazards warning through Tuesday

High tides will build each morning through Tuesday, peaking Sunday and Monday, with tides in Los Angeles County forecast to reach 7.2 to 7.6 feet at their peak. A west-to-northwest swell combined with the high tides will produce dangerous swimming conditions, elevated surf, hazardous conditions on rock jetties and a risk of coastal flooding. A beach hazards statement is in effect through Tuesday morning for Los Angeles County beaches, while a coastal flood advisory will remain in effect through noon Tuesday for Orange County coastal areas.
