Singapore FA Cup final postponed as haze pushes western PSI past 200

The Football Association of Singapore announced on the evening of Oct 16 that the FA Cup final and third-place play-off scheduled for Oct 17 at Jurong East Stadium are postponed due to haze; the 24-hour PSI in the west exceeded 200, breaching the amateur-match threshold. Friday's PSI hit a year's high of 229.
Why it matters
The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) announced on Friday evening, October 16, that the FA Cup final and third-place play-off scheduled for Saturday, October 17, at Jurong East Stadium have been postponed due to the haze — joining a growing list of Singapore sporting events disrupted by poor air quality. The FA Cup is FAS's annual knockout competition for amateur-league clubs.
Why it was called off
The 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) in the western region exceeded 200, breaching the threshold for amateur matches under the FAS–Singapore Premier League (SPL) Haze Management Protocol. The island-wide 24-hour PSI climbed on Friday to a year's high of 229; air quality improved on Saturday morning but remained in the unhealthy range. Both fixtures will be rescheduled, with details to be announced.
The protocol's thresholds
Under the protocol (developed with Sport Singapore): amateur matches may proceed only when the 24-hour PSI forecast is 200 or below and the 1-hour PM2.5 reading is in the normal or elevated bands; youth football faces stricter limits (PSI forecast 100 or below); professional matches, including the SPL, may proceed with PM2.5 readings up to 200 but must be suspended or postponed beyond that. FAS said the protocol prioritises the health of players, officials, staff and spectators.
