URA data showed developers sold 296 new private homes in September (excluding executive condos), nearly double August's 153 and above last year's 255.

Why it matters

Developers in Singapore sold 296 new private homes in September, excluding executive condominiums, nearly doubling from 153 in August and beating the 255 sold in September last year, data from the Urban Redevelopment Authority showed Thursday.

Why sales rebounded

Analysts noted September's strength came after the end of the seventh lunar month — typically viewed as an inauspicious period for property purchases — which started around mid-August, alongside more units launched for sale last month than in August.

Huttons Asia CEO Mark Yip said new private home sales are likely to rise in the last quarter as developers launch more projects before the year-end holidays, estimating full-year transaction volume at around 7,000 units. Christine Sun, chief researcher at Realion Group, also expects more launches ahead. Yip added that while interest rates have recently edged up, historical data shows minimal effect on demand for new homes.
