Australia's Head On Photo Festival runs in Sydney from November 7 to 29, with photography exhibitions at Bondi Pavilion Gallery and outdoor displays along the Bondi Beach promenade, including a "Bicentenary of Photography" exhibition. Admission is free.

Australia's major photography festival, Head On, opens in Sydney today, November 7, and runs until November 29. Bondi Pavilion Gallery and the Bondi Beach promenade will host a series of photography exhibitions, all free to visit.

Two exhibition settings: the Pavilion and the promenade

According to the New South Wales Government events listing, the festival's Bondi venue is at 2 Queen Elizabeth Drive, where the "Bicentenary of Photography" exhibition is showing in the Yalagang Room at Bondi Pavilion for the same dates as the festival. Large-scale outdoor works are displayed along the Bondi Beach promenade, and the programme extends to Paddington Reservoir Gardens and the Sydney central business district. The state listing says the festival is free and welcomes people with access needs.

A visit that pairs gallery and shoreline

Organized by the Head On Foundation, the festival brings together emerging and established photographers. Waverley Council describes Bondi Beach as roughly one kilometre long and a short distance from Sydney's city centre, with a coastal walk linking Bondi with Bronte and Tamarama. By pairing indoor gallery exhibitions with outdoor works beside the sand, the festival lets visitors take in photography and coastal scenery in the same place. Organizers advise checking individual listings before travelling, as exhibition times can vary across the wider programme.
