The Toronto Transit Commission issued an official statement: at approximately 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, two young people were pushed in front of an oncoming eastbound subway train as it entered Dufferin Station.
One youth was able to crawl under the platform and avoid being struck by the train; the other suffered undetermined but non-life-threatening injuries.
A suspect was arrested shortly afterwards and police continue to investigate what the TTC calls a 'very serious incident.' The TTC thanked the Toronto Police Service for its quick response and a station collector who held the suspect for police.
The TTC says the safety of customers and employees is its top priority; the system has designated waiting areas, CCTV linked to collector booths, tactile yellow strips at platform edges, passenger assistance alarms and emergency stop levers on trains.
