Nothing CEO Carl Pei announced on X on November 4 that the company's first 'AI-native product' ships in December: a tool with no new screen that 'couldn't have been an app' — but its form, name and price remain undisclosed.

Nothing CEO Carl Pei announced on X on November 4 that the company's first "AI-native product" ships in December. "It's a tool, but one built with the personality and care that have come to define a Nothing product. It has no new screen, and it couldn't have been an app," Pei wrote. The company disclosed nothing else: no form factor, name, price, or date within December.

An essay about 'tools', not product details

Pei also published a long essay on X titled "Toolmakers", arguing that the industry's hunt for an "iPhone moment" in pendants, pins, glasses and companion devices is a dead end for now. According to TechCrunch, Pei also seemed to downplay any link to AI wearables, calling the device a "productivity tool".

Outside guess: a recorder or note-taker

With so little official information, outsiders can only guess. Android Authority speculated the product could be a recorder or note-taker — speculation only, unconfirmed by Nothing. Pei has said since March 2026 that traditional smartphone apps will gradually fade, replaced by intelligent AI agents, and the company promised AI-native hardware more than a year ago.

Nothing's background

Nothing was founded by Carl Pei, a co-founder of OnePlus, and is known for the Nothing Phone series, whose signature Glyph Interface is a customisable LED lighting system on the back of the phone used for notifications. The company has previously said it plans AI-linked smart glasses and earbuds. Pei did not say whether the December product is connected to those plans.
