Perplexity launched 'Teammates' on November 5: persistent, multi-role AI work assistants built on Perplexity Computer that draw on a user's projects, skills and memory; available first to Max subscribers on the web at $200 a month.

Perplexity launched 'Teammates' on November 5, a set of always-on AI assistants for ongoing work. According to The Verge, the feature is built on Perplexity Computer: each Teammate can take on a different role, several can work in parallel and hand tasks to one another, drawing on the user's existing projects, skills and memory for continuing context. Users can track each agent's progress through threads in the app and interact with them through Slack. (Image: Perplexity logo.)

Taking on OpenAI and Anthropic's workplace agents

Teammates puts Perplexity in the same race as OpenAI's Dots and Anthropic's Claude Duet: assistants that stay online and take over work from high-level goals rather than answering single questions. CEO Aravind Srinivas announced the launch on X the same day, saying the company has used about 10,000 teammates internally over the past 30 days, and predicting that every employee will eventually have hundreds of such AI assistants working for them.

Web first, Max subscribers only

Teammates are available first on the web to Max subscribers, with iOS, mobile and desktop apps to follow. Max costs $200 a month (about $167 a month billed annually), far above a typical chatbot subscription, reflecting Perplexity's positioning of Teammates as a workplace productivity tool rather than a mass-market feature.
