Breaking: Saudi regions receive aerial-threat alerts; explosion heard in Riyadh

The Associated Press reported on September 19 that emergency alerts reached phones in several parts of Saudi Arabia and that the Riyadh message referred to a hostile aerial threat. An AP journalist heard at least one explosion in the capital. Authorities had not reported casualties or property damage when the report was published.

Reuters separately confirmed that Saudi Civil Defence issued potential-danger alerts on Friday night in several regions, including Jeddah and Taif in Mecca province, Khamis Mushait and AlUla. The notices did not identify the incoming object and told residents to remain alert and follow safety instructions.
