New bridge and lifts open at Sydney's Macquarie Fields station
The NSW Government says Macquarie Fields station completed an accessibility upgrade on September 15, adding a 23-metre footbridge, two lifts and more platform canopy for more than 10,000 weekly passengers.

Some platforms previously required passengers to climb as many as 92 stairs or use a steep ramp. The new footbridge links the platforms to the pedestrian overbridge and the two lifts are now operating, with the project completed ahead of schedule.
The forecourt, boarding-assistance zones, lighting and security were also upgraded. A Railway Parade bus stop and pedestrian crossing were relocated, so passengers should still check live Transport for NSW information before travel.
The state says the 2026–27 budget adds A$200 million to the Safe Accessible Transport program. The opening is one part of broader accessibility work across the Sydney rail network.
