Rivian recalls nearly 99,000 U.S. vehicles over rearview-camera display issue

Reuters reported from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall notice that Rivian is recalling 98,828 U.S.-market vehicles. When the vehicle is in reverse, a software notification may appear over the rearview-camera image, reducing the driver's view behind the vehicle and increasing crash risk.

The affected population includes certain model-year 2022-2027 R1S, 2022-2026 R1T and 2027 R2 vehicles. Listing a model and year does not mean every vehicle is affected; owners should confirm by VIN through the official recall lookup.

Rivian has released a free over-the-air software update to correct the issue. Owners should still verify that the update installed successfully and that the recall record shows the remedy as complete.

This action was issued by the U.S. regulator. Canadian owners should separately check Transport Canada recall records or contact Rivian rather than automatically applying the U.S. scope to Canadian vehicles.
