Yemen fighting displaces more than 100,000 people, UN says

Reuters reported on September 15 that UNHCR's latest count exceeded 100,000 people newly displaced inside Yemen, with thousands more travelling by sea to Djibouti. The figure is evolving and is higher than the roughly 85,000 cited by other reporting a day earlier, showing that movement is continuing.

Relief operations face fighting, damaged roads and infrastructure, disrupted communications and movement restrictions. Displaced families risk shortages of shelter, food, clean water and medical care, while sea departures add further safety concerns.

Reuters and The Guardian separately reported expanded Houthi operations along Yemen's western coast and missile and drone attacks on Saudi targets, followed by intensified Saudi and Yemeni-government airstrikes. Individual battlefield and casualty claims from the parties still require independent verification.

Security around Bab al-Mandab, the entrance to the Red Sea, is also under scrutiny. Residents, travellers, aid organizations and shipping operators should use UN, humanitarian, port and maritime-security notices and plan for rerouting or delays.
