A storey building under demolition collapsed in Lagos, Nigeria, on Monday, October 26, 2026, trapping one worker under the rubble, with a search and rescue operation still under way. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said the building, on Adedoyin Street, Ijegun, Ikotun, in the Alimosho Local Government Area, collapsed during manual demolition.
Distress call in the afternoon, rescue team dispatched
LASEMA said it received a distress call at 1:44 pm local time on Monday and immediately deployed its Beta Team from its Igando Base to the scene. On arrival, responders found one worker trapped beneath the debris, while another worker who had sustained a hand injury had been taken to a hospital before the team's arrival. LASEMA's response team, working with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), began a coordinated search and rescue operation, and the area was cordoned off to prevent further danger.
Cause to be investigated
The Lagos State Government said it would investigate the collapse to determine its immediate and underlying causes and ensure compliance with building control regulations. At the time of the report, the rescue operation was still ongoing and no update had been given on the trapped worker's condition.
Note: this Ijegun demolition collapse is a different incident from the building collapse in Fadeyi, Lagos, on October 23, which this site has already reported.
