· N GLOBE

It is Halloween today, and Ottawa has three free outings to catch: family Halloween activities plus a free concert at Rideau Hall from 10 a.m. to noon, entrance and Blast Tunnel activities at the Diefenbunker from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and two free horror screenings at the main library in the afternoon.

It is Saturday, October 31, and Ottawa has three free outings you can still catch today, all with no admission charge. In time order: Rideau Hall or the Diefenbunker in the morning, horror films at the main library in the afternoon, and an extra layer before trick-or-treating tonight — Environment and Climate Change Canada forecasts a clear night with a low of 0°C.

Rideau Hall: 10 a.m. to noon, family activities plus a free concert

Rideau Hall hosts family Halloween activities today from 10 a.m. to noon, with a free concert at 11 a.m. Enter through the Princess Anne Entrance. Security screening applies, and concert seating is first come, first served.

Diefenbunker: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., entrance and tunnel activities free

The Diefenbunker at 3929 Carp Road runs activities at its entrance and in the Blast Tunnel today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with no booking needed. Note the distinction: museum admission and the indoor scavenger hunt require separate paid tickets; the free part covers the entrance and tunnel activities.

Main library: two free horror films in the afternoon, mature audiences

Ottawa Public Library's main branch at 120 Metcalfe Street screens two horror films free today on a drop-in basis: Demons at 1 p.m. and Suspiria at 3 p.m., both listed for mature audiences.

Check the weather before heading out

Sunset is at 5:52 p.m., and tonight stays clear with a low of 0°C, so dress warmly for trick-or-treating. Sunday looks even better: sunny with a high of 14°C.
