Analog Devices completes acquisition of Alif Semiconductor in edge-AI push
Analog Devices has completed its acquisition of Alif Semiconductor, folding in the company's AI-native microcontrollers and fusion processors to expand across industrial, data centre, defence and robotics markets.
US semiconductor company Analog Devices (ADI) announced today that it has completed its acquisition of Alif Semiconductor. Alif is known for AI-native microcontrollers and fusion processors, and the deal expands ADI's addressable market while accelerating innovation across several fields.
What Alif brings
According to ADI's announcement, Alif's AI-native platform lets systems understand real-world signals, reason and act locally, within demanding power, latency, security and reliability constraints. Combined with ADI's strengths in sensing, signal processing, power, connectivity and application software, the technologies will serve industrial, data centre infrastructure, defence, energy, robotics, digital health and wearable applications.
Betting on the intelligent edge
ADI describes itself as a global semiconductor leader bridging the physical and digital worlds, focused on the so-called Intelligent Edge — moving computing and decisions as close as possible to where data is generated. As AI spreads from the cloud into factories, power grids and wearables, demand is rising for chips that can process data locally in real time, and Alif's low-power AI processing technology fills that gap. ADI did not disclose the deal value in its announcement.
