B.C. NDP Promises Three More Years of Frozen Car Insurance Rates

B.C. NDP Leader David Eby announced in Richmond on Oct. 8 that drivers would get three more years of frozen car insurance rates if the NDP is re-elected. With the provincial election this month, auto insurance is a campaign flashpoint.

B.C. NDP Leader David Eby announced in Richmond on Oct. 8 that the party plans three more years of frozen car insurance rates, saying the move would help working families with rising costs. It is the party’s latest cost-of-living pledge in this month’s provincial election.
According to Global News, Eby and interim B.C. Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson traded barbs over the future of the no-fault insurance model, introduced by the B.C. NDP in 2021. The NDP accused Doerkson of privately promising premium hikes to private interests in a Sept. 29 letter; Doerkson retracted and apologized after twice denying it.
B.C.’s provincial election takes place this month. Insurance rates, health care and housing are expected to dominate the campaign’s final stretch.
