The Calgary Stampede crowned Chondra Fox from the Kainai Nation as its 2027 First Nations Princess on Sunday, October 25, 2026, following a competition in which four candidates showcased their cultural knowledge, traditional dance, public speaking and interview skills.
A Blackfoot name meaning Lone Woman
Fox, 23, is a Jingle Dress dancer whose Blackfoot name is Naamitapiaakii, meaning Lone Woman. She is the sixth representative from the Kainai Nation to be crowned Calgary Stampede First Nations Princess. Her reign runs from January 1 to December 31, 2027, during which she will serve alongside the 2027 Calgary Stampede Princess. Fox dreams of creating spaces and experiences that bring Indigenous and non-Indigenous people together through fashion, events, creativity and meaningful relationships.
It doesn't feel real yet
Fox said after her crowning: It doesn't feel real yet. This was a really joyful moment for me. She said she looks forward to connecting with people, building relationships and learning more about her culture, then being able to represent that knowledge and be a role model to young girls: I am really excited to be a part of the community and to be able to give back to my community in this role.
More than a crown
Amelia Crowshoe, incoming chair of the First Nations Princess Subcommittee and herself the 2012 First Nations Princess, said the program is about more than wearing a crown and working a crowd of thousands: it is about cultural values, community leadership, connecting to people from all walks of life and sharing who we are as First Nations women. She welcomed Fox into the Calgary Stampede family and said the committee looks forward to supporting her journey, honouring the women who came before and continuing to build a program that celebrates identity, communities and future leaders.
