Calgary's Enerflex wins 450 MW gas-fired power contract for data center

Calgary-based Enerflex announced October 1 it won a major contract to design and build about 450 MW of behind-the-meter gas-fired power units for a North American data center developer.
Why it matters
This is a landmark order for Calgary's energy-services sector as it moves into AI data-center power demand: surging data-center electricity use has made behind-the-meter natural-gas generation one of North America's hottest plays.
The contract
Enerflex Ltd. (TSX: EFX, NYSE: EFXT), headquartered in Calgary, announced October 1 via GlobeNewswire that it has been awarded a major Engineered Systems project: design, engineering, fabrication and assembly of approximately 450 megawatts of behind-the-meter natural-gas-fired power generation units for a North American data center developer. The project will be executed through Enerflex's North American manufacturing operations, with deliveries starting in 2027 and completion in 2028.
Supporting investment
To support the award and expected growth, Enerflex has included about US$15 million of plant, equipment and infrastructure spending in its 2026 capital-expenditure guidance for the Engineered Systems business, and has authorized about US$85 million of investments in its ES facilities and capabilities, the majority expected in 2027. The company says the build-out should significantly increase the revenue capacity of the business line and will update its 2026 capital program with third-quarter results.
