Calgary Flames Fall 4-2 to Ducks at Home, Open Season 0-5 for First Time in Franchise History

The Calgary Flames lost 4-2 to the Anaheim Ducks at the Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday night; rookie Aydar Suniev scored his first NHL goal as the Flames opened the season 0-5 for the first time in franchise history.
Why it matters
The Flames are 0-5-0 to open the season — the first five-game losing streak to start a season in the franchise's 53-year history. They have been outscored 27-8. The one bright spot for the 16,894 fans at the Scotiabank Saddledome was 21-year-old rookie Aydar Suniev's first NHL goal.
Game recap
Jackson LaCombe opened the scoring on an Anaheim power play at 10:02 of the first period before Morgan Frost answered for Calgary four minutes later on a feed from Matt Coronato. Frank Vatrano tipped one home at 19:15 to restore the Ducks' lead. Late in the second, Coronato peeled around the net and fed Suniev at the bottom of the left circle, and the rookie snapped a sharp-angle shot past Ville Husso to tie it 2-2.
The game turned in the third: Calgary failed to convert two power plays, and Ryan Poehling scored the short-handed winner 5:35 into the period — injuring himself sliding into the goalpost on the same play and not returning. Nikita Nesterenko swatted a goal-mouth scramble home at 17:03 for the 4-2 final. A Flames goal by Yan Kuznetzov was waved off after Anaheim successfully challenged for offside.
Numbers and notes
Ville Husso made 27 saves in his first start of the season for Anaheim; Dustin Wolf stopped 24 for Calgary. The Ducks (4-1-0) won their first three road games to start a season for the first time, on the second night of a back-to-back after a 5-1 win in Winnipeg. Coronato recorded his first multi-point game of the season with two assists and was named the game's second star.
