Full report
VANCOUVER — The Calgary Flames carried a 1-0 lead into the third period Saturday night, then collapsed, surrendering four unanswered goals in a 4-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena.
Matt Coronato’s power-play goal at 14:51 of the first period (assists to Zayne Parekh and Joel Farabee) gave Calgary the early edge, and the score held through a scoreless second period that featured a cross-checking penalty to Flames defenceman Kevin Bahl for a hit from behind on Aatu Raty.
The third period belonged to Vancouver. Liam Ohgren tied the game 1-1 at 1:28 on a disputed goal initially waved off on the ice but confirmed by video review — the puck had fully crossed the line. Defenceman Elias Pettersson, celebrating his 100th NHL game, scored the winner at 9:04 on a backhand past Devin Cooley’s glove. Drew O’Connor made it 3-1 at 16:33 off a 2-on-1 rush, and Raty sealed the 4-1 final into an empty net at 17:16.
Goaltender Leevi Merilainen stopped 23 shots in his first start for Vancouver since being claimed off waivers from the Ottawa Senators on Sept. 25. Tom Willander and Linus Karlsson each recorded two assists. Cooley made 22 saves for Calgary.
