Calgary police seize $8.8M in drugs and cash in one of force's largest busts

Four men face trafficking charges after a four-month investigation led to warrants at five homes in Calgary and Cochrane, netting $6.8M in drugs and more than $2M in cash.
Why it matters
The Calgary Police Service announced on Oct. 15 what it calls one of the largest drug seizures in its history. Police say the network operated in Calgary and Edmonton, and the fentanyl and cocaine seized would have caused serious harm had they reached the street.
How the investigation unfolded
The Drug Unit opened the file in June 2026 after identifying a home believed tied to trafficking. Over four months, investigators identified four suspects, drew on 16 CPS units plus the Edmonton Police Service, the RCMP and the Canada Border Services Agency, and obtained 18 judicial authorizations and nine search warrants.
On Oct. 8, officers executed warrants at four Calgary homes and one in Cochrane, Alta.
What was seized
Officers seized 40.3 kg of powder cocaine, 6.9 kg of MDMA, 4.3 kg of methamphetamine, 1.6 kg of fentanyl, 654 g of crack cocaine, 31 g of ketamine and 298,452 prescription pills including Xanax, codeine and oxycodone — drugs valued at $6.8 million — along with more than $2 million in Canadian and U.S. currency, for a combined $8.8 million.
The four accused
Tomas Bahta, 19, of Calgary (released; court Oct. 28); Mohammed Ibrahim, 31, of Calgary (remanded; court Oct. 16); Fozee Ibrahim, 29, of Calgary (released; court Oct. 28); and Aidan Saunders, 29, of Cochrane (released; court Nov. 4). All face possession-for-trafficking and possession-of-crime-proceeds charges.
