Calgary brings back Stage 4 water restrictions from Nov 4 as Bearspaw feeder main work enters final stage

· N GLOBE

The City of Calgary will impose city-wide Stage 4 outdoor water restrictions and ask residents to conserve water indoors starting Nov 4 for about four weeks, as crews connect the new Bearspaw South Feeder Main.

Why it matters

Starting Nov 4, Calgary will impose Stage 4 outdoor water restrictions city-wide and ask residents to conserve water indoors, for about four weeks. No outdoor water use will be permitted. The city asks residents to run dishwashers and laundry only with full loads, flush toilets only when needed, and keep showers to about three minutes. The measures also cover neighbouring Airdrie, Chestermere, Strathmore and the Tsuut'ina Nation.

Why the restrictions

Crews are connecting the new Bearspaw South Feeder Main to the existing water system: the current main must be shut down during the work, leaving the city relying mainly on one water treatment plant running at maximum capacity. After the connection, the new line must be disinfected, filled and water-quality tested (about two to three weeks), with full operation expected by the end of the year.
