Anand meets Hungary's Orbán in Toronto, presses for CETA ratification

Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand met Hungary's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Orbán on Monday in Toronto, on the margins of the Pathways to Peace: Second International Conference on Returning Ukrainian Children, Detained Civilians, and Prisoners of War, held September 28–29, Global Affairs Canada said.
The two ministers reaffirmed their strong support for Ukraine and the importance of sustaining it in the face of Russia's continued illegal aggression. They underscored that securing the return of deported Ukrainian children, unlawfully detained civilians and prisoners of war is part of efforts to advance a just and durable peace.
As NATO Allies, they discussed security, transatlantic cooperation and current geopolitical developments; Anand welcomed Hungary's renewed commitment to the EU and NATO. On bilateral ties, they talked up trade and investment and people-to-people links; Anand underscored the importance of the Canada–EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement and encouraged Hungary to consider full ratification.
The ministers noted the strong historical foundations of the relationship, including the Hungarian-Canadian community and Canada's resettlement of more than 37,000 Hungarian refugees after the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, and committed to continuing dialogue on regional security, economic prosperity and other shared priorities.
