According to the Government of Canada, the Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations, the Honourable Rebecca Alty, and the Minister of Northern and Arctic Affairs and Minister responsible for the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency, the Honourable Rebecca Chartrand, will attend on behalf of the Minister of Transport and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, the Honourable Steven MacKinnon. The Minister of National Defence, the Honourable David J. McGuinty, will also be in attendance.

The celebration takes place Monday, October 5, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. EDT at Canadian North, 145 Thad Johnson Private, Ottawa, Ontario. Representatives of Canadian North and northern partners will join the ministers. Media will have an opportunity to ask questions following the announcement.

Canadian North is a key air carrier for northern Canada, operating scheduled passenger and cargo services across the Arctic. The new facility at the Ottawa International Airport is expected to improve cargo handling capacity for shipments heading north.
