Carney speaks with Trump, backs Ukraine–Russia energy ceasefire

Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke with President Donald Trump on October 11, thanking Washington for pushing a Ukraine–Russia energy ceasefire and pledging to maximise Canadian oil and diesel exports to the US.
Why it matters
Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke with US President Donald Trump on October 11, according to an official readout published by the Prime Minister's Office (pm.gc.ca). Carney thanked Trump for his leadership toward securing an energy ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, expressed Canada's strong support for the agreement, and reiterated President Zelenskyy's call for Russia to uphold it. He said it is imperative that all attacks on energy infrastructure and civilians cease immediately.
Full report
Carney said Canada will continue to join allies in supporting Ukraine's defences and its citizens, and will keep maximising oil and diesel exports to the United States — yielding well over a million barrels of diesel per day.
Background
Earlier the same day Carney also spoke with Zelenskyy. Ukraine had said via Reuters it would stop striking Russian oil refineries if Russia stops hitting Ukrainian energy infrastructure — a conditional proposal, not an announced ceasefire.
