The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a Class 1 nationwide recall on October 14 for 12 organic cheese products under the Farm Boy, L'Ancêtre and Life Smart brands. No illnesses have been reported.

Why it matters

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a Class 1 food recall warning on October 14, 2026, recalling 12 organic cheese products across Canada over possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The recall was triggered by CFIA test results and carries the highest risk classification. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the products.

Full report

The affected brands are Farm Boy (5 products), L'Ancêtre (6) and Life Smart (1), covering Swiss, cheddar and mozzarella cheeses in block and shredded form. The recalling company is Quebec cheesemaker Fromagerie L'Ancêtre Inc., and the products were sold nationally. All five Farm Boy products carry a best-before date of July 30, 2027; the Life Smart organic part-skim mozzarella (200 g) is dated March 30, 2027; L'Ancêtre shredded products carry dates from December 2026 to January 2027.

CFIA warns that food contaminated with Listeria may look and smell normal but can still make you sick. Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness, with pregnant women, older adults and people with weakened immune systems at higher risk. Consumers should check their products and not consume, serve, sell or distribute them — throw them out or return them to the place of purchase.
