Port of Churchill signs transatlantic deal with Port of Rotterdam on critical minerals
Arctic Gateway Group and the Port of Rotterdam sign a deal to build a Western Canada–Europe supply chain for critical minerals and energy, with a trade forum in Winnipeg today.

Arctic Gateway Group (AGG), the Indigenous- and community-owned operator of the Port of Churchill, announced on September 28 that it has signed an agreement with the Port of Rotterdam to attract business and strengthen supply chains between Western Canada and Europe.
The two ports will work together to develop new trade in critical minerals and energy products, connect Canadian producers with European buyers, and improve the supply chain from Western Canadian resource projects through Churchill into European markets. The Port of Rotterdam is Europe's largest port, home to more than 3,000 businesses across its industrial complex.
Federal Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon said the agreement creates "an important opportunity to strengthen connections between Western Canadian suppliers and European markets, while building more resilient and competitive supply chains." Manitoba's trade minister Jamie Moses said the deal builds on early success in shipping critical minerals to new markets.
As an immediate next step, the two sides will host a full-day Critical Minerals & Trade Forum in Winnipeg on September 29, bringing together mining companies, investors, government representatives and supply-chain partners.
The partnership comes during the most diversified shipping season in the Port of Churchill's history: in 2026 the port has handled the return of grain exports for the first time since 2020, plus zinc concentrate, Manitoba-produced potash and northern resupply vessels serving Arctic communities.
