Canada expands air transport agreement with Côte d'Ivoire: up to 14 passenger, 10 cargo flights weekly

· N GLOBE

Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon announced on October 6 an expanded air transport agreement with Côte d'Ivoire, allowing up to 14 combination and 10 all-cargo flights per week each way, plus fifth-freedom cargo rights.

Why it matters

Côte d'Ivoire is Canada's fourth-largest bilateral trading partner in sub-Saharan Africa and a growing air market. The expanded agreement sharply loosens limits on flight frequencies and destinations, creating new opportunities for businesses and travellers on both sides and supporting Canada's strategy of diversifying trade and deepening economic ties across Africa.

Full report

Announced October 6 in Ottawa, the expanded agreement gives airlines of each country access to all points in the other country; up to 14 passenger-combination flights per week for each country; up to 10 all-cargo flights per week for each country; and fifth-freedom rights for all-cargo flights at points in Africa, the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States — the ability to operate flights between two foreign countries when the flight starts or ends in the airline's home country.

Transport Minister Steven MacKinnon said the agreement will help grow both economies while creating new opportunities for people and businesses, reflecting a shared commitment to growth, partnership and prosperity. International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu noted Canadian exports to Côte d'Ivoire have already grown by 32 per cent in the past year, a clear sign of building momentum.
