Ottawa Announces Up to $6.8M for Cycling Canada as Montréal Hosts World Championships

Secretary of State (Sport) Adam van Koeverden announced on September 25, at Fan Village during the 2026 UCI Road World Championships in Montréal, that Cycling Canada will receive up to $6.8 million in 2026–27, including an additional $846,000 top-up for this year.

The funding breaks down as follows: $4.9 million through Sport Canada's Sport Support Program (including the $846,000 top-up); $470,000 in 2026–27 (including $370,000 from the top-up) to support six other international cycling events in Canada, such as the Grands Prix Cyclistes de Québec et de Montréal; and $13 million spent over the past five years to host this week's World Championships — $9.8 million through Sport Canada's Hosting Program and $3.2 million through Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions.

Van Koeverden said the announcement is part of the government's generational $1-billion investment in sport, the largest in the nation's history, to strengthen the sport system, increase participation, host world-class events and help athletes go from the playground to the podium. Cycling Canada CEO Mathieu Boucher said the investment will help inspire more young people to ride and to dream of representing Canada on the world stage.
