Kia Recalls 48,000 Seltos SUVs in Canada Over Fire Risk; Owners Urged to Park Outdoors

· N GLOBE

Transport Canada issued a recall notice for 2024–2026 AWD Seltos SUVs: the all-wheel-drive control unit can corrode, short-circuit and catch fire — even when parked and turned off.

Why it matters

Transport Canada has issued a recall notice covering 48,070 Kia Seltos SUVs. A defective part can short-circuit and cause a fire even when the vehicle is parked and turned off. Until repairs are done, owners are urged to park outdoors, away from other vehicles and buildings.

Full report

The recall covers all-wheel-drive 2024, 2025 and 2026 model-year Seltos vehicles. The all-wheel-drive control unit under the driver's seat can be contaminated by salt and moisture inside the vehicle; over time corrosion can cause a short circuit and a fire.

Dealers will inspect the control unit, replace parts as needed and install a protective cover. Kia will notify owners by letter, and owners can check Kia's recall website or Transport Canada's recall database to see if their vehicle is affected.

Context: in July, Kia recalled more than 20,000 Tellurides over a front-seat motor fire risk; the U.S. NHTSA previously issued a recall of 463,000 similar vehicles.
