OAS rises 1.4% from October 1: maximum pension reaches about $762.50 a month

OAS rises 1.4% for the October–December 2026 quarter — the largest quarterly increase of the year — with the new rates arriving in the October 28 payment.
Why it matters
Old Age Security is adjusted every quarter to keep up with inflation, and the October adjustment is the largest single-quarter increase of 2026. For seniors receiving the maximum pension, the October 28 deposit will be roughly $10 to $12 higher per month than the September payment.
Full report
The Government of Canada has confirmed that Old Age Security (OAS) benefits will rise by 1.4% for the October to December 2026 quarter, the fourth quarterly adjustment of the year. The new rates take effect with the October 28, 2026 payment.
Over the past 12 months, OAS has climbed a cumulative 3.0% — from 0.3% in January, 0.1% in April and 1.2% in July, to this quarter's 1.4%. Applied to the confirmed July–September maximums, the new rates work out to roughly $762.50 a month for recipients aged 65 to 74 (up from $751.97) and about $838.75 for those aged 75 and over (up from $827.17).
The Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS), the Allowance and the Allowance for the Survivor rise by the same 1.4%, since they are indexed to the same Consumer Price Index measure. The September 25 deposit was the last payment at the old rates.
Seniors should also check that their 2025 tax return has been filed — missing income information can reduce or interrupt GIS payments. Higher-income seniors face the OAS recovery tax once 2025 net world income exceeds $93,454.
