Ottawa funds Saskatchewan businesses hit by U.S. tariffs

PrairiesCan backs 8 projects to help firms add equipment, reach new markets and protect jobs
Why it matters
The federal government announced on October 9 in Saskatoon that PrairiesCan will fund 8 Saskatchewan projects, helping businesses stay afloat, protect jobs and diversify into new markets under pressure from unjustified U.S. tariffs.
Key points
The funding comes through the Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI) and the Business Scale-up and Productivity program. Companies are investing in new equipment and automation, expanding production, pursuing new markets and strengthening domestic supply chains.
Ottawa had already announced on August 25 an additional $1.5 billion through RTRI to help tariff-affected small and medium-sized businesses address liquidity concerns and maintain employment and day-to-day operations.
