Langley RCMP announced Oct 2 the results of Project E_PURSUANCE: a 16-month probe into the extortion of an auto dealership, with five foreign nationals charged Oct 1; ringleader Sanket Singla was arrested at Toronto Pearson after a controlled operation brought him back from India.

Why it matters

Langley RCMP announced on Oct 2 a major breakthrough in "Project E_PURSUANCE," a 16-month investigation into extortion plaguing B.C.'s South Asian community. The B.C. Prosecution Service laid charges on Oct 1 against five men on extortion, firearms, explosives and drug-trafficking counts. Sanket Singla, 23, an Indian national, was lured back to Canada from India in a controlled operation and arrested the moment he landed at Toronto Pearson Airport.

Full report

The investigation began in June 2025 after the co-owners of a Langley auto dealership reported significant extortion demands. Their Surrey and Langley locations were then hit by two targeted attacks involving arson and shootings in summer 2025. A dedicated project team ran operations across Canada and internationally, identifying a group allegedly involved in extortion, trafficking prohibited firearms and trafficking controlled substances.

Charged Oct 1: Sanket Singla — extortion, two counts of recklessly discharging a firearm, two counts of causing damage by fire or explosion, and throwing an explosive substance; Sahil, 24, of Surrey — extortion, arson damage and unauthorized transfer of prohibited firearms; plus Simranjeet Singh, 24, of Surrey, Harsh, 21, of Surrey, and Jagdeep Singh, 24, of Ottawa. Officers seized firearms, ammunition, magazines and suspected cocaine, fentanyl and opium.

Working with IRCC, the CBSA and RCMP liaison officers abroad, investigators "facilitated a controlled operation" that caused Singla to enter Canada, leading to his Oct 1 arrest. Langley RCMP Supt. Harm Dosange said: "The RCMP's position was we were going to target the higher levels of the extortion and hold them accountable." All five remain in custody with bail hearings set for Oct 5 in Surrey; police say more charges are expected.
