Sidhu leads Team Canada Trade Mission to India, largest in over 30 years

International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu leads nearly 300 Canadian delegates to Mumbai and Bengaluru from October 12 to 17, Canada's largest trade mission to India in more than three decades.
Why it matters
From October 12 to 17, International Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu leads nearly 300 Canadian business delegates to India, with stops in Mumbai and Bengaluru. Global Affairs Canada calls it the largest Canadian trade delegation to India in over 30 years — a clear signal of Ottawa's push to diversify exports beyond the United States.
Full report
The delegation spans five sectors: aerospace and space, clean technologies and energy transition, information and communication technologies, life sciences and agri-food. Delegates will meet Indian decision-makers, industry players and potential clients to expand commercial ties and build partnerships that create well-paying jobs at home, the government said.
The mission also advances talks on a Canada-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), with a target of concluding a deal by year-end. Canada aims to more than double two-way trade with India to $70 billion by 2030; in 2025, two-way goods and services trade totalled $30.4 billion, of which $11.0 billion was goods.
Background
In 2025, Canadian merchandise exports to India totalled $3.9 billion, led by vegetables, mineral fuels and oils, and wood pulp; imports from India were $9.7 billion, mostly precious stones and metals, machinery and pharmaceuticals. Canadian direct investment in India reached $11.4 billion, while Indian FDI in Canada totalled $9.7 billion. The mission is part of Canada's Indo-Pacific Strategy.
