Full report

The statement says progress over the past five years spans community safety, culture and language, health and wellness, justice and policing, and shelters and housing. Recent federal investments cited include $300,000 for Giganawenimaanaanig to advance a Red Dress Alert pilot in Manitoba; $2.6 million for the National Family and Survivors Circle to keep survivors and families at the centre of implementing the Calls for Justice; and more than $978 million to support 46 existing shelters, enhance violence prevention and establish 92 new emergency and second-stage shelters, including the Satuivik project in Pivurnituq, Quebec, a shelter and transitional housing for women and children experiencing violence.

The government also recently announced $607.4 million over four years to continue the National Action Plan to End Gender-based Violence across the country, on top of the $539.3 million invested in 2022, to strengthen services, expand prevention and improve support for victims, survivors and their families.

A national, toll-free 24/7 crisis line provides mental-health support for anyone affected: 1-844-413-6649. MMIWG health and cultural support services are also available.
