Secretary of State for Sport Adam van Koeverden announced Oct 6 a C$19.2 million new investment for 2026-27 in Canada's sport system: C$7.1 million for safe sport and C$11.75 million for anti-doping.

Why it matters

The funding is part of the federal government's "once-in-a-generation" C$1-billion sport investment framework covering facilities, events and athlete development — with safe sport and anti-doping as current priorities.

Where the money goes

Of the C$19.2 million for 2026-27, C$7.1 million goes to safe sport — including C$5 million for the Office of the Sport Integrity Commissioner and C$1.94 million for the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada — and C$11.75 million to anti-doping, including C$7.2 million for the Canadian Anti-Doping Program and C$4.5 million to replace testing equipment at the INRS laboratory ahead of the 2027 launch of the new Canadian Anti-Doping Program.

Support for athletes

In 2025-26, the Athlete Assistance Program provided C$40 million in living and training allowances to nearly 1,900 athletes; in July 2026 the government announced an additional C$3 million per year, bringing the total to C$43 million annually.
