Trump: Canada will apologize and "we're gonna win everything" in a trade deal within weeks
Speaking in the Oval Office Monday, Trump predicted Canada will reach out in three to four weeks, apologize and agree to a "fair" deal; US import bans on some Canadian goods take effect at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday.

On Monday, Sept. 28, US President Donald Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that he expects the Canadian side to contact Washington "over the next three or four weeks" and agree to a trade deal. "They're gonna come in and they're gonna say, 'Sir, we are sorry.' They've treated the United States very, very badly. I think a deal will be made, but it's gonna be fair," Trump said, adding that the United States will "win everything."
The remarks are the latest escalation since trade negotiations between the two countries collapsed last month. Trump has imposed 50 per cent tariffs on some Canadian goods, moved to remove Canadian products from US federal procurement, and signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario as "Lake America."
Under White House proclamations, the listed Canadian goods — including some wines, beers and spirits, eight categories of whey products, cane and inverted sugar syrups, and motorcycles with engines over 800cc — will be barred from the US market starting 12:01 a.m. Tuesday.
The office of Canada-US Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc said Canada's top priority remains "protecting and supporting Canadian workers, farmers, families, and businesses from these unjustified actions."
