Moonshot AI launches Kimi K3.1 Pro with 2.8T parameters, promises open weights by Nov 4

Beijing-based Moonshot AI released Kimi K3.1 Pro on Oct 23: 2.8T total parameters, 1M-token context, API prices a third cheaper than K3, with full weights promised before Nov 4.
Why it matters
Artificial Analysis scores Kimi K3.1 Pro at 55 on its Intelligence Index, ranking fourth — behind only Claude Opus 5.5 (58) and Sonnet 5.5 (56). Moonshot claims it will become the strongest open-weight model once the weights are released, as the gap between open and top closed models keeps narrowing.
Full report
Beijing-based Moonshot AI launched Kimi K3.1 Pro on October 23, 2026, the first model in its K3.1 series. Official specs: 2.8 trillion total parameters (104 billion active), 1 million tokens of context, with text and image inputs supported.
On pricing, the K3.1 Pro API costs $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens — roughly a third cheaper than K3. A faster, higher-spec K3.1 Pro Highspeed variant launched alongside it.
Moonshot pledged to release the full model weights before November 4. Notably, the company says it removed hacker-related data from training to avoid boosting cyberattack capabilities.
