Nio's Firefly gets CATL's Qilin battery: 60 kWh, 560 km range, same size and weight

· N GLOBE

Firefly launched a 60-kWh battery pack on October 23, and CATL confirmed on October 24 via Weibo that the pack uses its Qilin battery; CLTC range reaches 560 km, up 140 km from the 42-kWh version, with pack dimensions and vehicle weight unchanged.

Why it matters

This is CATL's flagship cell-to-pack technology reaching an entry-level city car: a third more range with no bigger or heavier car. For small-car buyers, the old trade-off of cheap car equals short range is breaking down.

Full report

Nio's Firefly brand officially launched a 60-kWh battery pack on October 23. CATL said on Weibo the next day (October 24) that Firefly uses its Qilin Battery, delivering 560 km of range under China's CLTC test cycle.

For comparison, the original 42-kWh pack is supplied by Sunwoda, uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells and offers 420 km of CLTC range. The new 60-kWh pack uses nickel-cobalt-manganese (NCM) cells, adding 140 km, or about 33%. Firefly says pack dimensions and vehicle curb weight are unchanged.

On price, a Firefly with the 60-kWh battery starts at 136,800 yuan including the battery; under the battery-as-a-service (BaaS) plan the car starts at 79,800 yuan with a monthly battery rental of 599 yuan. The carmaker says charging from 10% to 80% takes 33 minutes; like other Nio models, the Firefly can also swap its battery in about 3 minutes.

One detail to note: CATL's Weibo post did not say which generation of Qilin battery Firefly uses, nor its charging rate. Qilin is a CATL product line introduced in 2022, with its third generation unveiled in April 2026.
