Monitoring data from India's Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) shows Delhi's air quality deteriorated significantly on October 5, edging toward the "poor" category. The citywide average AQI over the first four days of October was 174.5 — the most polluted October start in six years, compared with 119.75 in the same period of 2025 and 167.25 in 2024.
On Sunday, October 4, the citywide average AQI reached 187, the highest so far this season. Of the 43 functioning monitoring stations, 14 have entered the "poor" category: Mundka recorded the worst at 273, followed by CRRI Mathura Road and Narela at 257 each, and Jahangirpuri at 237.
Under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), Stage 1 curbs kick in when the AQI crosses 200. With no rain in the forecast, pollution is expected to worsen.
