Delhi's Barapullah Phase 3 flyover opens: East Delhi to AIIMS drive cut from 40 to 15 minutes

Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Barapullah Phase 3 elevated corridor on Sept 29, linking Mayur Vihar in East Delhi to AIIMS in South Delhi. The 9-km corridor cuts travel time from 35–40 minutes to about 15.
Why it matters
East and South Delhi have long lacked a fast, direct link, forcing cross-city commuters onto congested surface roads. Phase 3 is the final missing segment of the Barapullah corridor — its opening completes the puzzle and directly affects office-goers travelling between the two districts every day.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the Barapullah Phase 3 elevated corridor on September 29, 2026. The roughly 9-km flyover connects Mayur Vihar in East Delhi to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in South Delhi.
The drive from Mayur Vihar to AIIMS, which used to take 35 to 40 minutes, is now cut to about 15 minutes, significantly easing pressure on the surface roads along the route.
Driven by the Delhi government, the project was completed after years of delays and is seen as a major reinforcement of the transport network in the south-eastern part of the capital.
