Delhi to float tenders for EV charging stations at up to 180 sites

Delhi has completed assessment of 380+ sites for EV charging stations; tenders for 160–180 sites to be floated soon, Power Minister Ashish Sood said, as the city races to build infrastructure ahead of 2027 electric-registration mandates.
Why it matters
Delhi's 2026 EV policy sets hard deadlines: from January 1, 2027, only electric three-wheelers and N1 light commercial trucks will be registered in the capital, and from April 1, 2028, only electric two-wheelers. The charging network has to be ready before those mandates bite — and the government says the first wave of tenders is now imminent.
Power Minister Ashish Sood framed the effort as the structural core of the EV push: “A true EV revolution cannot rely solely on short-term financial payouts; it requires robust, reliable, and segment-specific charging infrastructure that eliminates range anxiety for everyday citizens.”

NEW DELHI — The Delhi government has completed its assessment of more than 380 sites that will be converted into electric-vehicle charging stations, with tenders for developing 160–180 of them to be floated soon, Power Minister Ashish Sood told The Hindu BusinessLine in an interview published October 5.
A total of 456 candidate sites were identified through the state Revenue Department and another 49 through the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). Of these, the Union Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has approved 382 sites, which have since been reassessed segment-wise for two-, three- and four-wheelers to match the mandates of the Delhi EV Policy 2026, which took effect on July 1, 2026.
“The site reassessment work was completed recently and we are about to float the tender for around 160-180 sites,” Sood said. The first tender will prioritise sites where power availability and grid feasibility are already confirmed.
The government has also on-boarded KPMG as the project management unit (PMU) to monitor execution. Beyond public stations, Delhi's EV policy encourages resident welfare associations to set up community charging points and runs a DISCOM-led single-window system for new EV electricity connections.
