Charles Matata, 29, of Kenya won the men's elite race at the 21st Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon on October 18 in 58:52, breaking a six-year-old course record; his twin brother Alex won last year's edition. Ethiopia's 19-year-old Wudinesh Alemu took the women's title in 1:06:35.

Why it matters

The 21st Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, a World Athletics Gold Label road race, concluded on October 18 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi with nearly 40,000 runners. Kenya's Charles Matata, 29, won the men's elite race in 58:52, shaving one second off the course record of 58:53 set by Ethiopia's Amedework Walelegn in 2020 — also a personal best for Matata.

Twin brothers win back to back

Matata's twin brother, Alex Matata, was the 2025 champion of the same race (59:50), making it back-to-back family titles. Kenyans swept the men's podium: Samwel Nyamai Mailu finished second in 59:24 and Stanley Waithaka Mburu third in 59:33.

Women's and Indian elite races

Ethiopia's 19-year-old Wudinesh Alemu Keneni claimed the women's elite title in 1:06:35. In the Indian elite categories, Shailesh Kushwaha won the men's race and Ankita Dhyani the women's. The event offered a total prize purse of $275,732; Matata collected the $27,000 winner's purse plus a $12,000 course-record bonus.
