Delhi Civic Body Seals 1,557 Units as Over 20% of Inspected Factories Breach Pollution Norms

· N GLOBE

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi sealed 1,557 industrial units after inspections from Dec 2025 to Sept 2026 found more than 20% of units in non-conforming industrial areas violating air or water pollution norms.

Why it matters

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has revealed that more than 20% of units inspected in Delhi's non-conforming industrial areas between December 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026, were found violating air or water pollution norms. The civic body has sealed 1,557 units.

The disclosure comes just ahead of Delhi's winter smog season. The Delhi government has already announced winter pollution controls taking effect November 1: doubled parking fees at authorised sites, a ban on vehicles registered outside Delhi below BS-VI emission standards, and strict enforcement of the 'No PUC, No Fuel' rule.

Full report

The violating units are concentrated in unplanned, non-conforming industrial areas, discharging air and water pollutants above prescribed limits. The MCD says the sealing drive followed routine annual inspections and sealed units will be monitored to prevent unauthorised resumption of operations.

Winter air pollution remains the capital's perennial challenge. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta earlier launched the Air Pollution Mitigation Action Plan 2026, targeting 62 traffic hotspots and expanding the public bus fleet to over 13,700, with a priority on electric buses.
