Two posters questioning the government's performance were found inside a Delhi Metro Airport Express coach, carrying a QR code inviting passengers to join an online group. Delhi Police filed an FIR on Oct 24, with the Special Cell tracing the group's admins.

Why it matters

At around 6:50 pm on Oct 20, Delhi Metro Airport Express driver Tarun Chaudhary found two black-and-white A4 posters stuck on seats inside a coach at New Delhi station, on a train bound for Yashobhoomi. The posters listed "nine changes in the country in recent years," questioned the government's performance, carried slogans such as "Voting Protest" and "Dissatisfied? You Are Not Alone," and included a QR code inviting commuters to join an online group.

On Oct 24 (Saturday), Delhi Police registered an FIR against unidentified persons under the Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Public Property Act, 2007 and the Metro Act, 2002. The posters have been seized, and the police Special Cell is investigating, with a focus on tracing the administrators of the group behind the QR code.

Full report

According to PTI, citing police sources, the posters were printed in black and white and pasted on seats of the Airport Express train. Police said pasting unauthorized material on public transport violates laws against defacement of public property as well as metro regulations.

Notably, the incident comes days before the opposition INDIA alliance's "Vote Chori" (vote theft) mega rally on Nov 1. Police have not said whether the posters are directly linked to the rally; the investigation is ongoing.
